You need to read the article Chris posted. A lot of CA's water comes from the CO River which is pretty depleted. CA has been getting more than what was permitted under an agreement set up with all the SW states. Now the other states want CA to stop taking more than permitted.
I have. Nothing is new under the SoCal sun.

So some lawns dry up. Some homeowners aren't even bothering with grass on their landscaping anymore. They've opted for a more Arizona-like look.

I remember one SoCal homeowner with a pool in her backyard, and how maintaining that during the summer months was costing her a fortune in utilities. I would have asked her why she got a pool (or a house with a pool) in the first place if she couldn't afford to maintain it.

California already has tiered rates for utilities, so the people that are going to be affected most by water shortages, besides the farmers, are the ones who are getting more than their "fair share." After all that is "taken care of," then we Californians are going to experience the kind of rationing that "utopian societies" always suffer from.

The situation is different for you in N. CA. You are much closer to a water source than S. CA and are not dependent on an aqueduct to bring you your water.........an aqueduct that exists in earthquake country.

Like I said, concern about water was one of the reasons why I moved north.
