I have 2 WD and 3 Seagate externals. My WD Passport is about 2 years old without issues. BUT, only the Seagate external which is now 3 years old runs continuously. I use this one for all backups and imaging. The others I alternate backups and imaging in between so I always have an acceptable recent image. The only drive failure I have ever had was a Seagate external that ran for 2 years continuously. Seagate tech said I should have been turning it off when not in use, but without an on/off button it was a bother to constantly receive drive disconnect messages. I suppose the currently always running Seagate will fail one day soon, but I have it covered and will just replace it with one of my others and move on.
