That question has been asked plenty. And many of the people who bitch about the 47% are part of the group. But of course they themselves worked for everything they get, they "deserve" it, it's always the other guy who didn't work for it.

But of course, as you point out, they don't begin to think about all of the nuanced ways in which their lives--the products and services that they use and the people around them use--are subsidized by one government program or another. No, they are quite certain of their own virtue, knowledge, wisdom, cleverness and self-sufficiency.

The payoff for us nationally of all this subsidization, to include direct government subsidies to agriculture, is probably cheaper food prices.

It would be interesting to see the studies done on what food would cost if the subsidies (direct and indirect) were not there.
