On the positive side, looking at some of the studies I found, it's actually a fairly positive picture- save for all the money being burned up at the end of life, by the grandma and grampy queens- and to solve that problem we need to change the way we deliver health care, so nursing homes don't cost 4 thousand a month, and we don't do huge expensive procedures on patients with only a few years left to live.

My last word is that anecdotes are never, never an acceptable substitute for looking at full sets of real data - except in most of our political and social debate today, where it is high fashion.
