"the idol Ayn Rand... on SS"

That was the idle Ayn T Christ.

The idol Ayn T happened mostly posthumously, altho she did have a few apostles, like Greenspan.

But as usual, she had to be the hypocrite until the end. Rather than just sign up for it herself, she gave the power of attorney to someone else to sign her up, AND she tried to keep it secret (well who can't understand that?). In this whole debate about greed and government service, I find shades of the religious debate. There have always been people I've met who say "Why don't you just go out and kill people if you don't believe in God." Those people definitely need to believe in God, imo, if that's all that stops them from killing people. Same can be said of the takers. When people say to me "Why don't you just quit work and go on government services?" I figure those people need some kind of brute force to keep them off. So there probably is no one size fits all model for this- even though that's what we have. There are people like me, who find handouts offensive and self negating (I can't imagine retiring, and when I was faced with disability some years ago, fought it with all my might)- and there are people like your relative, who, if she is as you say she is, needs a swift kick in the ass and some rather draconian tough love to get her on the straight and narrow.
