Garfield is 65% minority/35% white. The graduation rate is somewhere between 58% and the mid 60s. That suggests it is helping the minority kids.


What about the 40 so percent that are not graduating? What do we do about them? And those rates were for the total school. The minority rate of graduation could be much lower.

I myself think the current graduation rate could in fact be higher because the stats I have been able to find are not current.

But the point for me is that if this is an example of a school that is supposed to be solving the problem (by using a super school for educating the economically disadvantaged) then we are not there yet--or even close.

As starting point--yes.
