…then to a hotel/motel to spend overnight in a bed and a clean shower..... Aha! The mantra my wife Sally always used when asked about camping. That is, until my itch for having a small trailer when I went out on my photography trips, came to a head. Landscape photographers (that's me) chase the light, and often the light isn't there to chase. As in rain, etc. And that overnight in a bed in a motel starts to become pricey. Weeeeeellll, the wife finally agreed some years ago to go along with my rationale to buy a small (as in Casita) trailer. We had to pick it up in a small factory town south of Dallas. Our first night in the Casita was kind of OK, but we had to return to the factory for a few minor glitches, and we were on our way back to Missouri with a three night stopover at Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma. As a young family, we often went to this state park to "cabin"! We stayed in WPA era log cabins. This time we were in the Casita and spent three nights, enjoying the hiking trails and such. We finally got the Casita home, but were on our way to Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas two weeks later. That Friday evening at Devil's Den, we went to a park ranger presentation at the amphitheater…a talk about bats, as I recall. As we were walking back to the trailer, my bride suddenly says, "YOU KNOW, MURREY, I REALLY ENJOY CAMPING LIKE THIS". All I did, was to mentally pump my fist, and say "YES!", to myself. AND that was three trailers ago.
