Monday December 8, 11:01 am Eastern Time Company Press Release WinStar and GTE Sign Interconnect Agreements for the States of Virginia and Washington NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--WINSTAR COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (NASDAQ-WCII) and GTE (NYSE-GTE) today announced they have signed agreements establishing the terms under which WinStar and GTE will interconnect their networks in the states of Virginia and Washington. The Virginia agreement will allow WinStar to expand the territory in which it provides facilities-based services in the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, where it began service in late September. Under the new agreement, WinStar will be able to serve the entire D.C. market, including the Dulles Access Corridor in Northern Virginia. The Washington State agreement includes the Seattle metropolitan market, where WinStar plans to launch facilities-based services in early 1998, using a Lucent 5ESS-2000 switch it recently acquired from US One Communications Corp. The new WinStar agreement with GTE, along with a previously announced interconnect agreement with US WEST Communications Group for Washington State, will enable WinStar to serve the entire Seattle metro area. WinStar now has signed more than 30 separate interconnect agreements nationwide, including agreements with GTE for California, Florida and Texas, as well as agreements with all the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs), Sprint and Southern New England Telephone. Together, all the WinStar interconnect agreements cover 40 of the top 50 U.S. markets. The new WinStar-GTE agreements, for the states of Virginia and Washington, are among more than 300 interconnect agreements that GTE has signed nationally.

DubM, CVUS is not in the same league as WCII when it comes to local telephone service. Checking their 10Q's and 10K's in Edgar I discovered that: 1) equipment for providing telephone service, along with their current TV feeds, is "still in development", 2) they have CLEC authorization only in NY State, 3) they have only one interconnect agreement with an RBOC (NYNEX) and that covers only NY City (signed June 11 of this year), 4) as far as I can tell they have no actual phone customers now, whether commercial or residential (apartment houses are their major target) Besides, look at their stock price chart--no excitement there. Bill.
