Wanted to mention the Corps of Engineer campgrounds and State Park campgrounds
About ten years ago, the Arkansas floated a bond election for park enhancement. I'm pleased to say vote carried and the state has invested ALL that money for its purpose.

Better than 90% of all Arkansas State Parks have full service camp sites with concrete pads and level tent pads. We rarely camp in Missouri. ;-)

Your post reminded me of my favorite spot to camp that is run by the BLM. It's primitive, but beautiful, sits along a world class fly fishing river, has great hiking (there is an old homestead up the main trail about 1/2 mile where the old orchard still exists) and fills up fast on the weekend. They never used to charge to camp there, but I think they do now. If you're lucky enough to snag a river site, you think you're in heaven.

I'd like to do this campground on one of our annual SI camping trips.
