People tend to compare Apple with the the likes of the Wintel platform, the reality is Apple has lost this war but it doesn't mean Apple is dead, for a long time now the high end workstation market and the desktop have been converging. Apple is remaking itself to better compete is this area by way of R.

A good example is with R and the G3, I have been involve in applications using PRO E on the SGI and DEC workstations both were unstable. We ended up staying with SGI since it was the most stable. I saw on MAC rumors that PRO E with be developed for R. The is a hugh market that the Wintel is basically non-exsist. And better yet the profit margins on 3-5K machines is alot better than the $999 machine. Let GATE, DELL and CPQ fight over the low margin business I would rather go after the higher end.

Go Apple

When hard core loyalists start to feel doubt ... it is either the bottom .... or the end of the line....

I keep reminding myself of the MSFT deal and of Rhapsody - the other shoe (on both of these issues) will hopefully drop at MacWorld in January ... I have my opinions on this and any investor should too before committing to get out or in.
