Laughter is good for the soul, as they say!

In reviewing analyst earnings expectations versus what a company actually says, I think one can often find glaring disconnects which can be profitable down the road. What often happens is that a company says "we are cautious on the next quarter or 3" and the analysts downgrade the entire future, as far as the eye can see.

That's one of the reasons I like to post my thoughts, so I can go back and see where I was looking vs. where the market was looking at that time - and then see how much either or both of us were right or wrong.

When long term growth gets discounted by a large margin, as in the case of BRCM, I like to run numbers for this purpose. Similarly, I like to see other companies in the same sector who had similar charts at that time, to see if which company ultimately faired better. For example, CAVM and BRCM had very similar charts until a few months ago. Since then, BRCM's has fallen off a cliff and CAVM's hasn't. Might this imply that CAVM may find it's stock under pressure or will they continue to outperform on a relative basis vs. BRCM? Often it implies they will outperform, as they are smaller and probably a bit more nimble.

I find it helpful but I can see where others would find it a useless exercise.
