I have some artifacts of my father's USMC career, including a portion of teakwood that he saved from the deck of his ship, the USS Northampton, when it was being refitted for impending engagement with Japan. The ship was sunk at the battle of Tassafaronga, so this may be the only part of her above sea level. Well, my family has another chunk of teak from the Northampton, so there are two parts above sea level.
