If you think Republican's have thought through and analyzed social programs in the sophisticated fashion you imply in your post you are living in lala land.

Do you really think Michelle Bachman has a sophisticated understanding of social science? Trump? Cain? Santorum? Perry? McConnell? Boehner? I have read a zillion right wing blogs and I have never seen a sophisticated analysis of social science. They don't even use the word social science.

So the fact of the matter is they are digging their heels in on a subject they have no understanding of at all. I see those Tea party gatherings with tea bags hanging down from their hats and all yelling about second amendment rights.

The Scandinavian countries are light years ahead of us because they do apply social science.

Which liberals keep trying to improve and Republicans who live in fantasy land want to stop.
What Republicans see when well developed and effective social programs are implemented is a demand to expand and develop more social programming, which they see as unsustainable fiscally. So they dig in their heals.
