While it is true that overall murder rates, as well as those in the 24 and younger age category were declining overall through 2010, there are no meaningful statistics for 2011-2013 at this time. In one city for this year, an analysis has been done and while the murder rate fell overall, the murder rate among teens held steady. But as I said in my original post, the character of these murders has changed over the last couple years. Sure, it is anecdotal, because that's all that is available at this time. But there is little doubt the utter disregard for human life amongst teens is on the rise. Furthermore, it is worth nothing that homicide statistics tend to track the victim's age and not the killer's, and also does not separate teens from those aged 20-24.
