I think they've been accumulating nutbars rejected by the (D)'s for so long, the lunatics run the asylum now. It's a real question if "mainstream" Republicans have any control at all nowadays. CAN they steer the party to a more moderate course? If they can't, they're going to lose the corporate funding that used to count on their legislation, since no corporation wants America to go down the tubes, which is where the nutbars would take it. They may devolve into a regional party of obstructionists, based mainly in the south and a couple of western states. I'm not expecting any more Republican presidents in my lifetime. Which isn't good, since as an independent, I see the (D) party only as superior to the crazy (R)'s. They NEED a viable opposition.
