I read that thousands of extremist fighters pour into Syria daily. These aren't rebel fighters. They are Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood and affiliates. They want the western world to hand them another country.

Like you said this isn't rocket science. It is so obvious. It really disturbs me.

Anybody having a good idea?

Yes. Our government needs to declare a US foreign Policy or Obama Doctrine or something that is consistent and which is based in American Principle. One that would be just as applicable in Egypt as it is in Syria or anywhere else.

I propose this:
We support and defend a Constitutional Government ruled by law and which defends human rights.

Neither side in this dispute deserves the support of the US government. I could see participation in an international peace keeping force at some point. One that would reduce the foreign al-qaeda threat and holds the Syrian government accountable for its brutal tyranny against the people.

Based on this: The millions of refugies fleeing the country are probably the only people who deserve our support at the moment.

I am always hesitant when I see a forced choice being pushed, simply because I don't believe in forced choices.

Assad:
Q: Have we forgotten who Assad is?
A: He is the Regional Secretary of the Syrian-led branch of the Arab Socialist Party. The great ally of Saddam Hussein. Remember the transport vehicles moving massive amounts of materials from Iraq to Syria just before the US invasion? Bashar's government and secret police routinely tortured, imprisoned, and killed political opponents, and those who speak out against the government.
In August 2006, Bashar al-Assad said that Hezbollah had "hoisted the banner of victory," hailing its actions as a "successful resistance." He claimed that Arab resistance was growing stronger, and warned Israel that "your warplanes, rockets, and your atomic bomb will not protect you in the future." He called Israel an enemy with whom no peace could be achieved as long as they and their allies (especially the U.S.) support the practice of preemptive war. In the same speech, he also called Arab leaders that have criticized Hezbollah "half-men."

The Rebel Group

The Islamists in this group were established under the name Muhajireed Brigade in 2012. This is an international coalition of groups tied to Al Qaeda, like Ahrar al-Sham and Al-Nusra containing many foreign jihadists. .

The jihadist group al-Nusra Front, which has ties to al Qaeda, vowed Sunday to avenge the suspected chemical attack by targeting villages populated by Syria's Alawite minority, the sect to which al-Assad belongs.

"We are announcing a series of revenge operations called 'An Eye for an Eye.' Your Alawite villages will pay a very dear price for every chemical rocket that you've launched against our people."

...well...if Obama says he needs UN approval, he will never get it (Russia, China will block)........this would get them off the hook for running his mouth about red lines. Apparently the UN weapon inspectors only will certify chemical weapons were used......they were told by UN officials not to determine who used them.................this makes the whole affair a complete sham.........based on this..... any outcome can be arguably justified/rationalized...........just what you would expect from Obama.
