A full 1/3 of annual global greenhouse gas emissions is methane generated and released in man made hydro electric reservoirs. Without doubt, THE dirtiest energy on the planet is hydro power, wherein the generation of green house gas by far exceeds that from coal fired and natural gas fired electrical generation. How can this be you ask? It is because of all the vegetation that is flushed into a reservoir from the entire drainage basin that supplies water, decomposes in the bottom of the reservoir creating methane. If you really believe GHG are a serious problem, methane is at least 20 times more potent than C02. A full 1/3 of man made GHG could be eliminated by simply decommissioning hydro electric power generation and removing the dams and reservoirs. A case in point is California-if that state and its people were true environmental stewards instead of hypocrites, all the states water needs should be provided by solar and wind powered desalination instead of using water from man made reservoirs.

Read the other articles ... diseased trees do produce methane. So do termites that eat dead wood on trees.
