I have read he loved the military from the very first. He joined ROTC. He is a born conservative and military person, whatever that is. But whatever it is, forces a man who normally would be a dem to be a pub. And I agree, keep all military people out of the state Department. What is worse, maybe, is that the military demands so much conformity by the time a person makes it to general any person with creative thinking abilities is washed out. I spent 6 months in the military and found it a foul place. Definitely a necessary evil. War should be seen as a necessary evil and never celebrated.
