Comments and questions about changes that caused erroneous taps were distinct from the prior general comments about the dropdowns. A poster pointed out that you increased the font on line 2, but you still removed white space below
SILICONINVESTOR.

Why did you remove the space? If you restore the space to what we had until the change, the comments will go back to prior levels.

...open your own board in another forum on SI if you wish to continue this discussion amongst yourselves. I moderate this board. If you wish to participate on this board, I would ask that this topic be closed.

Then why is the board called "New Feature Discussion"?

If we can't discuss/complain/suggest/request then you should rename it "Only Topics Admin Wants to Talk About" board.

You don't need to threaten us.

You could have been forthright and told us that in the beginning and saved us all a lot of frustration. It is your decision, not ours. In the future when non-negotiable topics come up just tell us and save us both the time and energy.

Blessings,

JRH

No right to choose, no right to ask.
When I signed 12 years ago this forum sure was different.
I don't like it where it is going..... I think that it should be option-able.

groups of individuals reinforce and support a particular viewpoint not commonly held

Option-able mean you have a choice.
On my tablet this new feature is not user friendly.
And you are basically saying, shut up and suck it up.
Thank you.
If I find good trading forum I will move from here.
I sure don't like this bossy style of yours!

P.s.
I sent this post to SI owner.
I don't expect anything but at least I voiced myself.
This place is starting to stink and it was my home for many years :-(
Can't believe the arrogant response from you Dmitry :-(

I have been reading this thread (as well as others) for over 17 years. For the most part, SI has been a valuable component in the investment world.

I'm usually a pretty easy-going guy. As long as nobody is cheating somebody else out of their money, whatever happens, happens. I might not like it, but yah-tah-hey.

However, this "I-don't-give-a-damn-about-what-you-say" attitude really torques my jaws.

I spent a career developing professional grade big bux software. During that career, I learned that no matter what you do to "enhance" your system, there will be some push-back by those who want it reverted to the way it was. Having a tough epidermis is part of the job requirements. You have to "suck it up" and continue on doing what you know (or at least you "think") is going to be an overall improvement to the product.

Yes, there have been some rude commentary about your changes. As a developer, I know how that can hurt, because you are doing your best and you are probably spending more than your 40 hour week trying to improve the environment. Your best efforts are slammed. That hurts.

But, as I said before, it's part of the job description. Criticism always has, and always will, be present.

Simply stated ...

Get over it.

Sure is a pretty day.

dmitry,

fwiw, I think the drop down menus are cool...once you get used to them.

I have no complaints....there are other things in my life that are more important than whining about a website

cheers!

ps...I just love the speed of pages loaded

I'm very sorry that a group of you do not like drop down menus. This feature is not going away, and no switch to turn off the active navigation menu system is being contemplated.
Hello Dimitry,

Drop down menus are a common feature on today's websites. Prominent examples include financial sites like MarketWatch, Bloomberg, and Yahoo Finance.

So why are people complaining so loudly about SI's drop downs, but not these other successful sites? Unlike SI, these sites have a slight but noticeable delay factor built into their drop down display. Therefore users are less likely to accidently invoke the drop downs when moving their cursor around on these pages.

By comparison, SI's drop downs are set to a hair trigger. The drop down link zone is positively radioactive, so users have the following major complaints:

1) Drop down menus geting triggered when user would prefer to go direct to SubjectMarks and PeopleMarks

2) Getting trapped in the search popup when rapidly sweeping across the Tools link while returning from another open window.

3) Accidently triggering the SubjectMarks drop down when aiming for the Reset button.

MarketWatch has the longest drop down delay of the three sites mentioned above. While it does have large drop down menus like SI's, I can click my mouse fast enough to bypass the drop downs entirely. Perhaps you could try out a delay factor for SI's drop downs, to see if these complaints can be resolved in a way that would satisfy both sides in this controversy.

Respectfully,
Snowshoe (the gray-bearded code monkey)

Not sure if this is the place to post this but here goes.

I do most of my surfing and posting on SI on a first gen. iPad.

Used to be I could highlight a portion of a post I want to reply to by holding my finger on the screen and selecting and copying the text. I'd then paste it into a post using the quote balloon.

For some time now, that has not worked. Have not been able to highlight text in posts (I can highlight text that I type in the reply window).

Suggestions?
