That museum in no way refutes the premise that the world is civilizing. It is simply a departure from the discussion and a gratuitous attack on Free Thinkers. It is true (and obvious) that atheists can break the law and can end up in prison (though I am thrilled to know that our ranks are very much under-represented in the prison population!), but it is equally certain that godless people can choose another ideology other than a religious ideology, and can also be cruel and heartless--just as we find superstitious people acting throughout history. But I am (again) thrilled to know that most atheists either have no ideology (in terms of any political Weltanschauung), or else adopt some form of humanism. A Communist atrocity is just as reprehensible for me as it is for you, so pointing out that atheists are capable of adopting ideologies and acting immorally to attain ideological goals is superfluous and fruitless. I abhor ideologies that promote any form of "Chosen Peoples" wherein the Chosen People are elevated and hold an undeserved and unearned power and privilege. But atheism is not communism or any other "ism". Indeed atheists existed for thousands of years and were persecuted for thousands of years before "Communism" was even invented.
