Bill,
They don't want to admit that their silly micro-economic theory is built on a foundation of envy.
It's actually macro-economic, but no matter what model you use for your economic theory, you need to be able to (a) explain it in simple terms to a layman, and (b) defend it from challenges like the one you posed.

Ted and CJ could do neither. They'll just tell you to look up Keynes on Google.
