Ron, My gorup wrote the cpq dealer inventory system years ago and it's changed alittle..but , it knows what inventory is in each channel. it knows the patterns and what is the model. It then tells you if a store is over or under the plan. I would imagine now it's more detailed. Cpq planned all this extra inventory bec. if you don't have the pc at this time of yr when the customer walks in then the salesman will talk the customer into another purchase so as not to lose out. Cpq will have more planned price cuts soon. Optimum amt can be measured by sales patterns and volume contract have to be hit too.
