I'm not so sure. I wasn't raised in poverty, but my parents fought quite a bit when I was a child, and I often wondered which one I'd prefer to live with when they divorced, given the choice. I could get away with a lot more with dad, but when caught, the punishments were draconian. Mom saw right through me, but seemed to understand and was more gentle.

I've often wondered if I might have had less problems if they HAD divorced.
