CJ,
Um, FDR said the goal was to make it a living wage.
Do you realize that back when FDR was president, the minimum wage of today, adjusted back for inflation, would easily fit the definition of a "living wage" at the time?

Today, a "living wage" includes having a car, a very comfortable home or apartment, quality day care (if you're a single parent), and enough food to make them overweight.

By the way, in San Jose the "living wage" for a single parent with two kids is defined as $56K/year. Yet obviously most people in San Jose don't earn that much. How are they able to live?

That's why the whole notion of a "living wage" is bogus, at least when it comes to minimum wage. It's no longer about promising a chicken in every pot.
