Thank you for the posting the link to Meathead's answer. At least now we know what we may expect from both systems. Actually, I wasn't much off. USB turned out to be even much slower than I thought. In my opinion it has even less chances for survival with speed 1.2Mb.
Win98 will come in the second half of 1988 or may be even later. This will be the time when the first digital TV arrive and convergence of TV and computers begins. Meathead clearly says that USB is not for multimedia world. It will need Firewire. I don't think anyone will manufacture or buy obsolete on arrival hardware.
Firewire is expensive now, but when it becomes a commodity the price will collapse. It will have to find itself a way in to the world of sub $1000 computers.
