Shame on you DJ, even a bear like me bought the stock last week (ggg). About IP or layer 3 switching, I need to do more readings to see if there is any need for standardization. Note that there is no IEEE committee working on standard for IP switching, just like there is no standard for routers. An IP switch only job is to route messages to the proper destinations and there is no handshaking or protocol. On the other hand, GE, FE and ATM need to define a communication protocol between the source and receiver end for proper handshaking.
