Alan I want to post a small study that I believe should interest all of God's people. There are so many misnomers and misunderstandings, and misinterpretations within the word of God that we have learned from the beginning, and have never questioned as adults, myself included, however, I learned some time ago, some lessons that have opened my heart and understanding. The pages of the word of God now illuminate with brightness and life. Please bear with me while I present one of them.
Consider the following;
Israelites is the collective name by which the 12 sons of Jacob/Israel were known, even by God our Father.

#3481 Yisre'eliy (yis-reh-ay-lee');
patronymically from 3478; a Jisreelite or descendant of Jisrael:
Taken from #3478, A symbolical name of Jacob, also typical of his posterity:-Israel

Gen 35:22-26
22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.

Each son became the head of his own family(tribe) and each son was the inheritor of the covenant made to Abraham, passed on to Isaac and confirmed in Jacob/Israel. Judah, being one of those sons, but not the only son, also became heir to the covenant.

The family (tribe) of Levi (one of the 12) became known as Levites.
The family (tribe) of Benjamin (one of the 12) became known as Benjamites.
The family (tribe) of Simeon (one of the 12) became known as Simeonites
The family (tribe) of Judah (one of the 12) became known as Jews.
and so on, and so on.....

Jew; OT
#3064, Strongs= Yehuwdiy (yeh-hoo-dee');
patronymically from 3063; a Jehudite (i.e. Judaite or Jew), or descendant of Jehudah (i.e. Judah):

Jew; NT
#2453 Strongs= Ioudaios (ee-oo-dah'-yos);
from 2448 (in the sense of 2455 as a country); Judaean, i.e. belonging to Jehudah:

When Paul says
Acts 21:39
39 But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

He was declaring where he was from, his origin.But he pinned it down in another scripture by saying;

Rom 11:1
1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

Paul was not a descendant of Judah, therefore not a Jew, except that he was from a place called Judea. He was a Benjamite, a descendant of the tribe of Benjamin

Just as we consider ourselves American. But if we are descendants of Italian, Irish, or some other nationality parents, we say we are Italian or Irish, but because we come from America, we also say we are Americans.

Paul also stated;
Acts 22:25-27
25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.
27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

But we know he was of the tribe of Benjamin, even though he had Roman citizenship through his father, who by the way, we also know was a Benjamite.

This is also the reason Abraham, Isaac nor Jacob could be Jews.

Jews came about first when Judah the fourth son of Jacob/Israel, became head of his family, and all his descendants became known as Jews....I know that this goes against the grain of what we have learned, but just because we learned it, does not make it fact.....fact is the word of God, there we will find all truths...Praise be to His Holy name.!

Have to go now, will continue later....There is much more to consider.

Have a good day both of you
Shalom...><>
