>> $500 a month for a whole family?

Just to put things in perspective, the cost to the state for Medicaid where you live in 2010 was $9,000 PER ENROLLEE. Family of three? Try $27,000/year on average -- certainly substantially more than that now.

If the person is aged or disabled you can figure 2-3x that.

What we do know with certainty is that a single mom with one child earning $29K has the equivalent income in PA of 69K -- that's 40K in giveaways even after earning 29K.

Dave is referencing a "study" done by The Heritage Foundation(I think). Anyway, what they did was to sum up all of the possible programs. They ignored the fact that many are mutually exclusive and/or time limited. For example SNAP, unless there is a minor in the household, is limited to 3 months out of every 12.

So it might be possible, under the right set of circumstances, to qualify for a few thousand a month for a month or two, but no way anyone can get the amount of benefits claimed per year.
