>> That's ONE person

The point is that there are vast sums of taxpayer dollars being given to people, a relatively small number of whom truly need it. I don't have a problem with someone who legitimately tries and cannot make his/her way on what they can earn getting temporary help from taxpayers.

But someone who is stuck making 20K/year for life needs to figure out how to get by on it OR figure out a way to make more money because taxpayers can't give that person an improved standard of living for the rest of his/her life.

Not only can we not afford to fund it, it is bad policy in that it discourages achievement and productivity. A person who is being given money without having to work for it is a drag on society and encouraging drags on society makes no sense.

People need to have some responsibility in their lives to feel as though they have some control of their own destiny. If you don't have that it is very difficult to have any self-respect, respect for others, or dignity in general.

I understand you think a society of moochers is a good thing. But it is irrational and there is no positive end game.
