I consider Shia and Sunnie different tribes. Do they not live together and believe in the same god?

They are not tribes. They are Muslim sects.

That is a tribe. The Jews are a tribe. I consider Alawite a subtribe of shia and Coptic Christians a sub tribe of Christians. The Christians are a tribe.

Tribe is too narrow a definition. There are Sunnis in the Philippines and in Morocco. Culturally they are two different people......there only common bond is religion.

What news reports say is that all the tribes are coming together. People are picking sides.

They are not saying that.....from where do you get your news? ;)

What news reports are saying is that the war is becoming more sectarian as the minority Alawites kill the rest of the population.

The ME is going up in flames from full blown tribal civil war and they will fight for ideology, land and resources.

Nothing we can do but help where we can, but we must not do a lot of fighting except defensively.

And we are going to need to deal with Putin.

Putin is going no where. His economy is sucking a foul wind and he's got an Olympics coming up where people are threatening to boycott because of Russia's crackdown on minorities.

The two warships he has sent to the eastern Mediterranean are very small. He is doing what's minimally acceptable considering the longevity of the Russian/Syrian alliance.

Wrong here - Shia and Sunni are religious sects. Tribes are a group of people that are related. In Saudi a big tribe is al- Ghamdi or Al Ajmi.

If you take all Koans over many generations and go to many cousins that you might not even know ( way beyond 4th or 5th cousins) you would have a Koan tribe.

Tribes were the basis for safety and security in this region way before national boundaries and they are still important but are not the impetus pushing the conflicts.
