Because use of chemical weapons is sort of a big deal. For lots of reasons we have turned a blind eye to their use and hoped the problem would go away. Well, it hasn't. Chemical weapons, even nerve agents, are pretty easy to make. There was that Japanese cult that did it. Given that their chosen delivery system was baggies of the stuff and ball point pens, I can't say as how they were all that sophisticated.

So, what to do? Damned if I know. From what has been said so far, it sounds like we will target command and control. If that is the case, then dragging this out might accomplish much of what is needed. Because the Syrians will try to move the important stuff, and that means those parts will be out of service for a while. Feeding the rebels intelligence and possibly some weapons and maybe some air support might break the stalemate.

Who knows? We just have no real good options. And it isn't even clear that some are worse than others.

Because a Democrat is President, not a Republican.

CJ says chemical weapons use is serious. But Saddam had already used chemical weapons when Bush went to war and both sides in Syria have already used them this year.
