"They need miracles like a druggie needs a fix because ordinary existence is terrifying for them."

There would be nothing reprehensible or loathsome in expressing wonder at time and space and distance and the amazing diversity of Evolution itself. After all, we all feel awfully small and insignificant when we truly understand how vast and incredible our universe (and what it contains)...truly is!

There is nothing in rejecting the bible (and other man-made religions created to control others) and to obtain privilege and power--nothing in this that prevents a thoughtful person from believing (just for the good of it!) in an intelligent (and hopefully a sentient, benign, and caring) ground to Matter and Energy! There is no evidence for that. But neither is there any evidence against it! And we do (after all) have the universe to play in!

Because these harmless beliefs would truly be a matter of Faith! But those who head the major religions claim to KNOW things that can (and have) easily been shown to be foolish lies or errors. PROVEN WITH 100$ CERTAINTY.

And (MORE IMPORTANTLY)--they claim to be special and selected--and to be morally and actually SUPERIOR to others. And this is the real purpose of most religious endeavors.

This makes the dumb followers, such as Greggy and Brum--not merely IGNORANT--but dangerous, as well. These are the kind of sheeples who can be ordered to willingly lead "unchosen" people, such as other religious people (or atheists, or homosexuals, or ANYBODY)...into gas chambers or ovens. Remember how David in the bible, put those who were not of Yahweh's tribes through the ovens and under the harrows (passages not generally preached to the sheeple!)?

Yes, many atheists are also humanists. We believe in humanity and a basic goodness to which we may all obtain. And like (perhaps the most famous humanist) Einstein--we find life AMAZING!

"A prophet that can't pull a rabbit out of his ass would be dissatisfying"

One of my favorites was Matthew, when he felt compelled to tell of the thousands of dead people who left their graves at the Resurrection! He felt the Jesus "miracle" was not enough! For some reason, Luke, John, and Mark did not find corpses walking into Jerusalem to celebrate Jesus, to be worthy of the telling!!

Can you imagine! All these corpses, all these dead loved ones coming into town to dine and dance and celebrate--and not a single historian mentions it!! Oh my goodness!!

Non-realism (Christian Atheism)...I sorta like it!!

Christian Atheists want to remove what they see as the fairy tale elements of Christianity.

They prefer to call this a non-realistic version of Christianity, rather than Christian atheism. They say that they do believe in God - but not in a fairy tale way.

To do this requires great intellectual sophistication, as you can see from the outline of non-realistic Christianity below.

Essentials of non-realistic Christianity

Religion is about internal spiritual experiences, and that is all.

There is no world other than the material world around us.

There are no beings other than the living organisms on this planet or elsewhere in the universe.

There is no objective being or thing called God that exists separately from the person believing in him.

There is no 'ultimate reality' outside human minds either.

We give our own lives meaning and purpose; there is nothing outside us that does it for us.

God is a projection of the human mind.

"God" is the way human beings put 'spiritual' ideals into a poetic form that they are able to use and work with.

"God" is simply a word that stands for our highest ideals.

God-talk is a language tool that enables us to talk about our highest ideals and create meaning in our lives.

Religious stories and texts are ways in which human beings set down and work out spiritual, ethical, and fundamental meanings in life.

Our religious talk is really about us and our inner selves, and the community and culture we live in.

Religious language enables us to do something unique.

Religious talk uses the familiar language of things that exist outside ourselves to make it easier for us to handle complex and subtle ideas.

Faith therefore isn't belief in a God that exists outside minds.

Faith is what human beings do when they pursue 'spiritual' ideals.

Saying that someone follows a particular faith is a way of talking about their attitudes to life and to other people.
