What has boxed the House Republicans in is themselves. Their position on issues is easy to predict. If Obama is for it, they are against it. Obama has used this against them before, and likely will in the future.

Now true, the red line rhetoric has put him in a corner. Unfortunately past administrations have turned a blind eye to use of chemical weapons and that has lowered the threshold of their use and he should have factored that in. Unfortunately, as public as this has been lowers that threshold even more. The world needs to decide where we stand on these weapons. Personally, I think the mere possession of them should be a war crime. They are not particularly useful against military targets, except maybe degrading the performance of soldiers outside of vehicles and structures. But it is difficult to take advantage of that because your own troops have the same encumberances. They are really just effective against civilians. And even then, they are most useful against your own civilians.
