I finished the first Robert Sawyer book (about aliens) and am almost done with the second one www.wave. About what it would be like for the internet to gain consciousness.

Am about to start Hominid, about what it would be like if Neanderthals had survived and a book he won many awards for and is consider one of his best.

In the book wave, he not only has fun with both Chomsky and Pinker regarding interspecies communication, introduces concepts like Zipf law and Shannon entropy, he also uses Helen Keller's experience into the book to talk about consciousness rising.

That is such a brilliant way to explain what it is like to go from a sort of intellectual void to an enlightened consciousness.

He is such an aware guy. And I don't know how anyone can gain as much knowledge as he has.

My dear old mom used to talk about Helen Keller a lot, along with Eleanor Roosevelt, and so it was inspirational to me. And a bit nostalgic.

Nope. I brought those up in the very early days before anyone on this thread was discussing it. You guys are a trip, though. When I bring things up early, you assassinate my character and call me an idiot. When those things then come to pass and I point out that I was right, you tell me I'm full of righteous indignation. When will you guys admit that I was right?

Now, I am pointing out the next thing that will happen: our QE and currency manipulation is pushing developing countries to China and we are on a slippery slope to losing our reserve currency status.

Will you assassinate my character and tell me I'm an idiot on that one as well? Please proceed to do so, as usual, because when that prediction comes true too, I will point out that I told you so, and you'll tell me again that I'm full of righteous indignation.

Here's how we break the cycle. Stop assassinating my character and pretending that my points are baseless and start considering that I may have a valid point or two to make. Then when my predictions come true, stop pretending like I never made the point early on. In other words, give credit where credit is due and then I won't feel the need to say, "I told you so."
