If the Y2K patch is not available for NW 3.11, I believe that the majority of users will upgrade their systems to NT. Novell had better start knocking on doors as does MSFT and offer those poor soules, a big discount to upgrade to NW 4.x or NW 5.x. Retaining market share is just as important as building profits...at this stage, NOVL should worry about the former. Once gone to NT, users will be hard-pressed to migrate back to NetWare.

Lets go NOVL !! Time to pack your bag and give it your best shot (and for crying out loud, lets keep the fuel costs low...especially jet fuel).

V.K

Jerry, thanks for the clarification on where the 3.x line is split in terms of availability of the year 2000 patch. It further boggles my mind though that they're forcing the issue with the small guy whom they don't seem to want. I hope that part of their strategy is not flushing the small guys to focus on the enterprise...redefining their core business, while throwing away what I figure must be a significant percentage of their installed server base. I guess that's the question, how many 2.x on up to 3.11 networks exist out there? I know way back when I installed 100's of them in lower Michigan alone. How many sales are they giving to MSFT? What would Novell gain by giving away existing customers, one of their most valuable remaining assets, in an effort to gain new customers?

I wonder how MSFT is handling OS patches for 2000? Dosen't really matter though, IMO.
