Disarming Zimmerman

The odds continue to rise that George Zimmerman is neither a level-headed neighborhood watch activist nor a scapegoat for liberal/black racists. One might think after his escape from legal consequences for shooting Trayvon Martin that he might have pursued a quiet life in seclusion as far away from shooting irons as he could get. But no:
Police in Lake Mary, Fla., say they are holding George Zimmerman in "investigative detention" while they investigate a 911 domestic violence call from his estranged wife.Deputy police chief Colin Morgan says Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin in a case that put a spotlight on Florida's self-defense gun laws, is being held in handcuffs.
Police were investigating a call from Shellie Zimmerman, who reported that he was threatening her and her father with a gun. She filed for divorce last week. It's possible, of course, that Ms. Zimmerman was making up the bit about guns (though if you listen to the audio of the 911 call, you'd guess otherwise) just as it's possible George Zimmerman was stalked and threatened with death by a Skittles-wielding thug.
But it looks like his many conservative fans are probably going to have to find another hero/victim for Stand-Your-Ground laws and vigilantism.

The tweet of the day comes from Josh Barro:
Perhaps George Zimmerman should give up his arms to an international party, while we're at it.

Tim Tebow offered contract by Kiss’s Arena League team

Star child Tim Tebow could be coming to a field near you.

(AP)If there’s one football player who’s the antithesis of Kiss’s desire to rock and roll all night and party every day, it’s Tim Tebow. He’s more apt to party whenever it’s someone’s birthday and rock and roll only between 6 and 6:15 p.m., provided it’s to an old Pat Boone album.

That hasn’t stopped the band’s new Los Angeles Arena Football League team from making apublicity attempt legitimate contract offer to the unemployed quarterback.

A press release issued by the LA KISS announced its three-year offer to Tebow. It hopes to lure Tebow to the AFL through a contract that could earn him “millions” and because of Tebow’s increasing football desperation. As if to drive that point home, the press release mentions how Kurt Warner turned from anonymous football player to NFL superstar, which sounds like the exact opposite of Tebow’s career trajectory, but whatever.

“Acquiring Tebow would not only be a great investment for the team, but his exciting style of play would definitely send shockwaves through the League,” said Gene Simmons in a press release. “We’re excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin’ their Tebow shirts and jerseys.”

What Tebow would look like as a member of KISS.

In Asia, 1 in 4 Men Have Committed Rape

UN POINTS TO SEXUAL ENTITLEMENT, ABUSE AS FACTORS IN 'GROUND-BREAKING' STUDY

(NEWSER) – India rape cases may be making headlines, but they're only the tip of the iceberg, according to an "unprecedented and ground-breaking" UN study. The anonymous survey of 10,000 men and 3,000 women in Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Sri Lanka—home to more than half the global population—found 25% of men had raped their partner, while 10% raped another woman at least once, the Guardian reports. ( CNN has a breakdown of figures per country.) Some 75% said they felt entitled to do so, while more than half cited entertainment value; 70% said they went unpunished.

"This is really the first time we've had data on rape perpetration on this scale, not just in the region but in the world, and I think it probably suggests rape is more widespread than we had thought," said one author, who points to paid sex, physical and sexual abuse as a child, and having many sexual partners, as factors that increase the likelihood a man will rape. And since more than half committed rape as a teenager, it "highlights the need to start working with younger boys and girls to stop the violence," she said. Options include changing social norms, cutting down on childhood violence, and prosecuting rapists. "The fact that there is such variation" by country, she says, "highlights that it isn't inevitable and that there are things we can do to prevent it."
