Perhaps OT? I went to the 1964 World's Fair in NYC. There was science and technology and industrial equipment on display everywhere. It was a real carnival. It was entertaining and exciting and wowed kids of all ages. Dow Chemical mixed a couple of ingredients together in a beaker and up foamed dense foam. There was a dump truck that could carry a full sized pick-up in its bed. There was a bridge made of corrugated cardboard that a car could drive over. All good fun while at the same time, a display of cutting edge achievement, the vanguard of accomplishment to date.
I was able to recognize the seriousness of what was really being expressed in this joyous setting. I couldn't fully understand much of the science of what I was being shown, but there it was to be seen and considered, to have been present and taken forward with me all these years.
There was science, inexplicable magic being demonstrated. I couldn't believe my eyes but there it was. I felt the foam in my own hands. Anyone could stand there with me and doubt for themselves what they were seeing. Maybe they went from that place and made a career of doubting? But, all these years later, I sleep on foam, drive sitting on foam even grip tool handles with foam. I have seen mushrooms grown and cast in place of foam. That is to say, small bubbles can become the material of dreams.
It's fine to prefer springs of metal under your mattress. That's what you choose for yourself. But to battle against the possibilities of foam because you prefer metal springs is vanity indeed.
