I suspect that the gun owners and gun grabbers went to the polls, and those that did not care did not. Gun owners outnumber the gun grabbers, so this is the good result.

Wasserman Schultz says Colorado losses due to 'voter suppression, pure and simple'
..............................................................................................................

Successful recall elections Tuesday of two Democratic state senators in Colorado were because of “voter suppression, pure and simple,” Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Wednesday.

John Hickenlooper won the district overwhelmingly in 2010 but is only tied at 42 with Tom Tancredo in a hypothetical match up there, so it's something Democrats will have to figure out how to deal with before next year. Tom Tancredo is considered the most down to earth Colorado politician around, he is gaining popularity across party lines because he is clearly someone who wont be bought or pushed around by ideologues from either wing.

Hickenlooper was seen as a level headed guy and won the Gubernatorial election with bipartisan support after serving as Mayor of Denver. Several things happened in the last year that shocked local voters.

* Selling out to Bloomberg last March made a lot of people believe he was looking more towards winning a job in DC than performing the one he has in Colorado.

* After a campaign where he supported the death penalty, he inserted himself into the sentencing phase in May 2013 to give a reprieve to a mass murderer (Nathan Dunlap) who massacred Chucky Cheeses workers in a petty robbery 20 years ago. This infuriated relatives, law enforcement officials, all the people who had served on juries and those who had given any consideration to this crime over the years. Certainly Dunlap showed no remorse initially, infamously telling authorities that shooting his former co-workers was “better than sex.”

* He pushed a series of bills in support of far left wing ideologues, which he was probably pressured into, including bills that are urban centric but harmful to vast regions of rural Colorado. He was Denver's mayor which would have made sense then, but not as the State's Governor.
