You want to argue the private sector is better than democracy, for educating our kids. I never said that. My argument is that all kids will be better educated if parents have a choice among competing providers. Many parent will still prefer public schools. You favor a govt monopoly. Show me one instance where any monopoly provided service superior to a competitive market.

The parents don't have a choice here, at least not if they can't afford to move to a better district, or to pay for a private school, or to take time off of work to home-school. Political decisions have to be made and a democratic system is a better way to make them then the alternatives, but political decisions are not individual choices. The system (democratic or not) chooses, and people (whether they agree or not) are forced to go along. Democracy is about how the political decisions are made (or more accurately the set up of the system that makes them), not about what areas get decided politically. A libertarian democracy is just as democratic (and more free) then a statist democracy. Also democracy != state monopoly. Private schools, charter schools, tuition vouchers, tuition tax credits, and other methods to inject competition in to education are not in any way undemocratic. What is undemocratic (which doesn't automatically mean wrong or bad, although those would also apply in this case) is trying to use the federal courts to ban the competition plan passed by the democratically elected local government.
