There is nothing new aboutt capturing CO2 from chemical processes. Steam reformers are the front end of ammonia plants for instance. I note the process uses a lot of energy.

Capturing CO2 from a high volume power plant flue gas stream is a cat of a different breed. Ergo the move has to be to O2 fueled combustion likely of gasified coal.

We are then talking about huge investments, lower thermal efficiencies a hugely complex process operation.

If it can be made to work reliably in a utility plant environment the cost of electricity will rise significantly.

Of course that is the goal as it would make green dreams more competitive and of course poor people more poor.

Capture of CO2 from natural gas well streams is also common using similar techngy. Oil field injection of CO2 is common - think DNR.

I absolutely no reason for the government to fund the project you referenced.
