Fighting waste disposal is simply another tactic in the battle to eliminate nuclear power. It is similar to the symbolic fight vs Keystone.

I enjoyed your commentary on base load power generation.

Here's a current analysis of nuclear vs. natural gas:

Basically using current pricing, nat gas wins, but at the expense of much greater uncertainty about long term operating costs.

On the other hand, I believe that recent experience with building nuclear plants indicates that the cost of building them is pretty uncertain - there has been a horrible history of cost overruns, in plants built ex-US at least.
