K., I could not agree more with your choice of drives. According to all sources, it is the fastest IDE drive currently available (the forthcoming Seagate 9.1GB UltraIDE will be faster).

However, check the label carefully to see how much cache is on your drive. The Deskstar comes in two flavors: 128K and 512K and the best price on the 'Net for 512K version is somewhat more than you paid. You would probably only notice a difference only when Win95 swaps out memory (something that happens more often than I like).

Also, your motherboard is probably not set up correctly to handle UDMA because IBM guarantees 5+MBS sustained throughput in that mode. My Cyrix P200+ with a Seagate 2.1MB IDE PIO 4 drive shows 4.7MBS (uncached) with Wintune97. You should be sailing even faster.

Craig

PS I bought a 512K Deskstar 6.4GB this afternoon for $349 at www.grumpmicro.com -- the only source that I could find for the 512K version. If you bought a 512K version for only $329, you got an incredible deal!
