Sep 12, 2013 By Laura McCallister , Justin Schmidt, kctv5.com GRANDVIEW, MO (KCTV) - Grandview police said a 14-year-old has been charged after an elderly veteran was robbed twice over the course of two days. A lockdown for all the campuses in the Grandview School District was lifted after a 55-year-old Grandview man was arrested, authorities said Friday morning. Mark. A. Esterley threatened to shoot schoolchildren after seeing news reports about an elderly veteran being beaten up twice by what appeared to be teens, according to court records. A .22-caliber rifle was taken from his home. Police said the teen was charged in Jackson County Family Court with second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and two counts of armed criminal action. Police shared surveillance video from a robbery on Sunday. A group of seven men forced their way into a home near Blue Ridge Boulevard and Interstate 49. Once inside police say they stole two handguns and a rifle after punching the 85-year-old homeowner in the head. The robbers came back two days later, this time with nine people rushing into the home. "The second time he didn't give any resistance, he was scared for his life. They came in and took what they wanted," said Detective Sgt. Dean Van Winkle with the Grandview Police Department. The robbers drove off in a red Chevy Impala and a silver PT Cruiser with dark tinted windows. Police said there have been several tips called in and named a number of suspects involved in one or both robberies. The Grandview Police Department is asking the public for continued help in providing information regarding the suspects and vehicles used during the robberies.
