I agree that loop holes are the problem.

But no one is coming up with a comprehensive answer on that.

I think a major part of that is that the guys that get the most loop holes are also the guys that raise the most money for politicians.

I don't think the tax rates of individual states are really relevant. If you don't want to pay CA or NY taxes then move OUT of that state. I live in a city that takes 1% right off the top of my income through occupational taxes.
That seems like crap to me, but I'm willing to put up with it because I think this city provides a pretty good climate overall for people and their kids.

It's a decision I've made on my own.
