When have I been self-righteous? I think THIS is being self-righteous:

I will always just stay on the left where we try and help our society be intelligent and compassionate and know how to adjust to the times.

The left has not changed one iota in 50 years. My friends on the left today are the same hippies they were 50 years ago. And the welfare state we envisage is the same, if you take relativity into account i.e. we have more of a need for stais and equality now, than we did in the 50's, and/but the left knows how to change with that changing reality.

I doubt you have changed one bit, just wiser.

All I am sure of is that that everything is infinite. Infinite complexity and time.

All we got was a peak at what is.

That is what makes the right wing so silly. They live in a tiny little reality, that is also a fantasy.

Other than being sure about compassion and humanity, everything else is relative to a larger sophistication.

That all conservsatives and most people don't ever realize this is sort of sad. They missed the best part of being alive. Not only the vision, but the freeing of their thoughts from the chains of primitive dogma.

I wake up this morning to watch some MSNBC and had to watch a church service for Boston.

I only wish I had seen that much compassion and empathy for the people of Viet Nam and Iraq we killed and maimed; or the blacks we segregated until the 60's or poor and downtrodden now.

He just wasn't a very big thinker. Nothing more or less I think. That is true of most right wingers. It isn't they are malicious per se, they simply do not see what liberals see, or feel (compassion) what liberals feel. And they get defensive because they cannot defend their positions, nor see ours.

I have come to realize it is as simple as that.

They need to know what they are seeing is not very sophisticated, so they can work to up their game. They need to know their world is a fantasy world.

Right wingers have no idea what a liberal is about. We see them, but they cannot see us. And they don't know that.

I think the Republican's are owned lock stock and barrel by the very rich, and the ignorant carry their water and are devoid of compassion and intelligence and are very dangerous

. Also, if they have any philosophy worth a cup of cold spit I would sure like to hear it.

It's very clear that you believe, BECAUSE YOU SAY IT, that you are a member of the enlightened compassionate elite, morally superior - that is MORE RIGHTEOUS - to everyone else strictly because you are a liberal. This is the essence of self-righteousness. And your moral superiority "earned" by being a liberal makes you justified in despising non-liberals as primitive, benighted neanderthals.

As a conservative, I don't feel like being conservative makes me morally superior. That would strike me as absurd. Morality consists more in what you DO or don't do and that differs from person to person. A particular person might be more moral than another based on how they live their life but not based on their political or social or economic view.

I'll tell you what I LIKE about you. You say the stuff almost all liberals think, but would feel silly coming out and saying. By doing so, you demonstrate what liberalism is all about: feeling like you belong in the superior ingroup.

Thomas Sowell (The Vision of the Annointed: Self Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy) and others have written about this but you demonstrate it.
