Skip, I think this move may be attributable to TRMB, again, being named to II's Magic 25. I should look at the 5 minute chart to see if there were big buys (institutions) or a series of smaller ones (II subscribers). I'm a little nervous about a move that is unsupported by big news or big volume. On the other hand, TRMB is now a lot less undervalued, so maybe we're just catching up a bit, and I'm not selling any time soon.

As to the timing market, that's an interesting question. I keep wondering whether TRMB has a quartz-assisted GPS clock, rather than a GPS-assisted quartz clock. If they do, and it really is a leap ahead, they don't have to acquire anyone -- they'll just take the business. The others use cesium, rubidium, and quartz. Not Trimble's metier.
The guys at the Datum thread think their only competition is HP, but HP hasn't seemed to come out with anything new for a couple of years. There's a poster on Motley Fool who's high on Frequency Electronics (FEI), saying they have a hot research head who's about to grab the market. So, if there is one timing company possibility out there, it could be FEI. But I'm still not convinced TRMB needs it.
