Actually I think a national sales tax would tend to benefit the older generations at the expense of the younger ones. It is the younger people who are in the acquistion stage of life, i.e. homes, cars, furniture, toys, appliances, big screen tvs, etc. etc. Us 50-plusers either already have those things or don't want them. My wife and I aren't nearly the consumers we used to be although we're better able to afford things now. For that and other reasons I think a nat'l sales tax is unfair -- but then I'm no fan of the income tax either.
