Yes, the bits and pieces are close to here already. Look at some of the recent high-profile crimes which were solved via video, either from store cams or smartphones. It is already to the point where anything done in public has a high probability of showing up on someone's video and then YouTube. All it will take is another decade of people getting completely accustomed to this, and they will say, gee, why not use this as a very cost effective replacement for some of the serious issues in society. Face recognition and gesture recognition are also advancing nicely, and the whole cloud and back end compute infrastructure will be there as well.

You could basically eliminate all crime, because the planning of any criminal act would be documented. Not just criminal, but civil cases as well. Nobody could get away with anything anymore. Its not just the police who would go, it is most the judicial system and the correctional system as well.

I'd hazard that psychiatrists would have a very rosy future in such a world. There would be plenty of people needing to relax on their couches and discuss the plight of the human condition under the all seeing omnipresent digital god...
