Sure. What do you expect? We had a market based system that worked exceptionally well, then the government took over half of it. You can't do that without destroying the integrity of the markets.

OTOH, the US system SHOULD be more expensive than others. We do more than half the world's health care innovation. And our per-capita incomes are among the highest in the world. Our costs would be reduced if we eliminated Medicare/Medicaid in favor of private systems, but still might be among the highest cost in the world.

It is true we are subsidizing the world's health care by doing most of the innovation. I don't have a problem with that, but I do expect to pay for it.
