That article doesnt even begin to really assess the horrors of even the last 30yrs, there are also huge progress emerging, women elected head of their nations now ,we see emergent change happening secularly. (Interesting that diamonds are used for marriage thats a relatively new tradition, massive fortunes made just off that effecting those regions with changing tradition) And theres that word again, we do call them emerging markets, and absolutely see religion as a racket from the very beginning. Look at Saudi's getting all that pilgrimage traffic each year, or Jerusalem. Do you think your any closer to God if you go there? Being racket isn't all bad tho, it does entail organization & is centralizing & incorporates a uniformity of predictable behavior that's a positive from an evolutionary survival of the fittest pov.

As for evolution as religion theres the accompanying coincidence that 97% of the academia are in favor of including the Vatican, this attack & alarmism on science is aggrandized to the point its misplaced, since no posiition ever gets proved one way or the other. As for love just being hormones , well ofcourse it is largely that , find me one Jesuit to argue the theory of instincts & laws of attraction for mating and he'll lose. There are lovers of God that avoid conjugal tie ups, rather be one with the infinite, whatever, thats very real, even Jesus indicates this ascetic approach. It was a long tradition 1400yrs before anyways, that we know from Buddha & before in India with the Jain saints that had Jesus teachings down before there was a King Solomon. There's child brides, prearranged marriages and all that other tie-in concerning various cultural considertion & necessities that revolve around taking mates, lineage & land title, political joinings, peace making gesture between warring factions, many kinds of consideration. If two gay people want to live together let them, stop squawking, love is love, the world isn't harmed by it, too far accepted now anyways, losing battle, the good book loses, thats just how it goes.
